KC Royals: Twitter Reaction To Early All-Star Results
By Scott Dillon
The KC Royals have a player in first or second place in voting at every position right now. Here we go again.
If the All-Star voting was to end today, the KC Royals would have three players starting. Salvador Perez, Eric Hosmer, and Lorenzo Cain are all earning votes that would not only send them to the All-Star game but would see them start as well.
Right now, Salvador Perez is the leading vote recipient among all players with 1,094,942 votes to his credit. He’s beating out the next closest catcher, Brian McCann, by over 700,000 votes.
Eric Hosmer is also blowing his competition at first base out of the water. He leads the first basemen in the group by a tally of 871,222 to 466,523 which belongs to Miguel Cabrera.
Lorezno Cain doesn’t lead the outfield voting, but he, alongside Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo, are the three leading vote recipients among outfielders. Also in the top ten?…Alex Gordon and Paulo Orlando (To be fair, Orlando has been hitting the cover off the ball).

That’s where things start to get interesting. It’s not all that far fetched that the Royals could send four starting position players to the All-Star game in San Diego this season. While those three are all in line to start, Alcides Escobar is trailing Xander Boegarts by a slim margin.
Kendrys Morales, yes the same Kendrys Morales who’s batting below .200 on the season, is the second highest vote recipient at the designated hitter position. He doesn’t have a shot, in spite of the KC love, at beating David Ortiz (That’s not a challenge…or is it?).
Omar Infante, is in second place in votes at the second base position. He’s currently in front of players like Robinson Cano and Dustin Pedroia. Both of those players are having fine seasons and are much more qualified to be All Stars than Omar Infante.
The bottom line is people are irritated with Royals’ fans right now. Here is some twitter reaction to the early results.
What can I say about all of the negative reactions out there?…deal with it.
If people don’t want the Royals to play in the All-Star game then they need to get online, yes just online, and they need to vote. They don’t even have to go anywhere. Stop complaining, and do something about it.

The Royals’ fans, love the Royals and they’ve obviously taken the time to vote. Are all of them deserving? Absolutely not. But the All-Star game isn’t based on stats. It’s a game put on by an industry that’s out to make money. If the people want the Royals, then the Royals the people will get.
Until the system changes and puts in All Stars based on stats and stats alone, there is no changing how this fan vote works.
