The KC Royals have lost three All-Stars to injury over the last ten days. It’s a good thing they have a new one earning that honor.

Last season, the KC Royals sent seven players to the All-Star game. Technically, Alex Gordon wasn’t available due to his pulled groin and Mike Moustakas was the last-chance addition. He also only got one at bat and that was against Aroldis Chapman.

This year, Alex Gordon is on the disabled list again with a broken wrist. He wasn’t having an All-Star caliber season anyways.

Mike Moustakas may have been a fringe All-Star candidate, but beating out Josh Donaldson or Manny Machado was going to be a tall task. He’s also out for the season on the same play that sent Alex Gordon to the disabled list.

Salvador Perez also got bitten by the injury bug. On a foul pop fly against the White Sox, the same team that saw Gordon and Moose run into each other in foul ground, Cheslor Cuthbert pegged Salvy in the quad. Luckily he’ll be back soon and he’ll probably have a good chance at earning a fourth consecutive All-Star berth.

The other players that represented the Royals at the All-Star game last season were Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain, Wade Davis, and Kelvin Herrera.

Lorenzo Cain may have made a late push to earn a second straight appearance and Wade Davis and Herrera have the numbers to go back themselves.

It’s hard to believe that when seven Royals were named to the All-Star roster last season, Eric Hosmer’s name wasn’t on that list.

Like it or not, Eric Hosmer is the face of the franchise for the KC Royals right now. He’s been an icon in Kansas City for a few seasons now, but ‘The Hoz’ stole hearts when he dashed home in game five last postseason.

This year, Eric Hosmer has been without question the best player on the KC Royals’ roster. He trails only Salvador Perez in bWAR, but there is no player the Royals want up to bat in the clutch more than Eric Hosmer.

Eric Hosmer may have the stats and the popularity to wear one of those ugly, personal opinion, Padres’ edition All-Star uniforms this season. Good for him.

He trails only Miguel Cabrera and Mike Napoli in home runs among first basemen in the American League. They each have 11 while Hosmer only has ten. He’s also only trailing Napoli in RBIs by a mark of 36 to 33.

He leads the American League in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, and doubles at his position. He’s also second in OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage), and third in on-base percentage.

Aside from his stats, he’s batting cleanup for the defending World Series champions and he’s leading the team through some rocky waters.

When Alex Gordon got hurt, it was something everyone had seen the Royals deal with before. Losing Moose seemed like a doomed season. The Royals are 6-1 without him. Then it was Morales that went down and then Perez.

Somehow, the Royals found ways to win and everyone is breathing a little easier in spite of those injuries. Rest assured, losing Eric Hosmer would not allow any fans to breathe easy. Not even with a healthy Gordon, Moose, or Perez. That also, makes him an All-Star.

All of that being said. Go vote! It’s time to send Eric Hosmer to his first All-Star game. He’s earned it so far this season. He’s unlikely to stop earning it. He’s on pace for the best year of his career…so far. Go Eric and go Royals!
