Kansas Jayhawks basketball received official National Letter of Intent from 2017 five star center Udoka Azubuike.

Kansas Jayhawks basketball has responded fairly well to their heartbreaking exit this spring.

After losing Perry Ellis to the draft, it looks as though Kansas Jayhawks basketball has locked up a great frontcourt player.

JayhawkSlant.com tweeted out a photo indicating that 2017 verbal commit and five star center Udoka Azubuike had officially signed his National Letter of Intent to play Kansas Jayhawks basketball.

JayhawkSlant’s Shay Wildeboor had reported the morning of May 5th that Azubuike would be signing later in the day.

Inking Rivals’ number 27 overall prospect in Azubuike had to be a high priority for Kansas Jayhawks basketball, whose frontcourt will certainly feel the loss of Ellis next season.

It appears as though Kansas Jayhawks basketball could abandon their small lineup by moving 6’10 Landen Lucas into the four spot, where 6’8 Ellis played, and putting 6’11 Azubuike in the middle.

Plus recently signed top recruit Josh Jackson brings a ton of versatility to the lineup as a 6’7 guard who, I assume, would be able to play in spots one through three, or if you want to be super crazy, make him a small ball point-forward.

This last scenario seems unlikely due to the lack of creativity in college basketball and the fact that Lucas may be their best defender and Azubuike will most likely enter the rotation.

The biggest problem with this idea appears to be that he may have developed the strength to deal with size mismatches well enough on the defensive end to justify the advantage on the offensive end.

Either way, spots one, two and three will need plenty of help replacing the production of players like Wayne Selden and Brannen Greene.

At the end of the day, having a five star player put pen to paper must feel good for Kansas Jayhawks basketball, but not as good as it will feel to watch Azubuike in the post.

Azubuike’s official signing means that Kansas Jayhawks basketball now has all three of their commits locked up in Azubuike, Jackson, and three star forward Mitch Lightfoot.
