Today’s KC Chiefs news is focused on the Kansas City Chiefs grades from the 2016 NFL Draft. There are mixed reviews.

The KC Chiefs had a very strong draft for the most part. They maneuvered their way around a lost third-round pick and found a way to get nine total draft picks.

While they initially had a seventh round pick, they made some trades that saw them snag all of their picks by the end of the sixth round. Considering not much talent comes out of the seventh round of the draft, that’s a huge plus for the Chiefs.

They also traded out of the first round and wound up taking Chris Jones with their first pick in the second round. It saved them first-round money and ultimately helped them quell the loss of that fourth-round pick.

Chad Reuter, at NFL.Com, gave the Chiefs an ‘A’ grade for all three days of the draft and an overall grade of ‘A’ for all three days combined. The rest of the AFC West didn’t fare as well according to Reuter:

"Trading out of the first round was a great move for general manager John Dorsey. He gets early second and fourth round picks, along with a sixth. Beautiful. Dorsey picked up additional picks with another trade down, which means they’ll do more damage early on Day 3 (where the value isn’t much different than the third round)."

Maybe the biggest reach in the draft was their pick in the fifth round when they took Tyreek Hill. The speedy wide receiver will almost certainly be an asset in the return game, but at what cost?

There is an ever increasing amount of attention being placed on domestic violence offenders and the NFL. Teams that select these players risk losing a player if they mess up again or tearing apart the locker room.

Greg Hardy, for example, played on the same team as the very outspoken Jason Witten last season. I find it hard to believe that Witten, who’s well documented history as a domestic violence survivor, would be on the same page as Greg Hardy.

While he brings with him a lot of talent, this is a pick that I have a very hard time getting on board with. While nobody is perfect, these players do more than play a game. They are in the public eye and like it or not, play heroes to today’s youth.

As a youth coach, I’ve encouraged kids to look up to those players who do use their ability to give back to the community and make a positive impact on the world. But, in the grand scheme of things, my personal opinion means little to the Chiefs. Here’s hoping he’s learned his lesson.
