The KC Royals are going to need the pitching staff to keep the ball in the yard to win this series.

Manny Machado has been the life force for the Baltimore Orioles. The young third baseman is batting .407 on the season.

The Orioles rank second in the Majors in home runs with 25 compared to 14 by the Royals which ranks 18th in the league. Mike Moustakas has five of those home runs for the Royals. The Orioles have three players with five home runs.

The Orioles also rank second in the Majors in batting average at .286 compared to a .261 average by the Royals who rank ninth. The Royals could really use an uptick by Lorenzo Cain, who’s batting just .222.

On the pitching front, the Royals rank fifth in the Major Leagues with a 2.91 team ERA. The Orioles are 12th in that category with an ERA of 3.63.

Interestingly, the Royals are being led by their starters who own a 2.84 ERA which is fifth best in the Majors. Their highly touted bullpen has an ERA of 3.04 which is 11th best in baseball. Thanks a lot Soria! (relax…kidding) It should also be noted that Royals’ relievers have only been awarded one loss on the season.

The Orioles only have three stolen bases on the year which is welcome news to Chris Young. He doesn’t do well at holding runners so the Orioles lack of speed isn’t a bad thing.

The Royals stand a good chance of winning a second straight series. If their starting pitching continues to surprise people and the offense finally comes to life, specifically with runners in scoring position, then watch out.

The Royals just beat a good team twice and they’ll have to beat another good team this weekend. So what do you think KC Royals’ fans? How will the Royals contain the Orioles? What are your predictions for the series? Let me know your thoughts in the comments’ section below.
