The KC Royals will look to win a third straight series against the Athletics later today.

The Royals appear to be in pretty good shape in terms of both depth and talent. They beat a very good Houston Astros team three times in Houston. That’s something they only did once last year including during the playoffs.

Given Chris Young’s early struggles it would be nice if Kyle Zimmer’s shoulder wasn’t balky. Royals’ fans have been waiting for his arm to come around ever since he got drafted. He’s now three years away from when he was supposed to debut and is shut down for a few days.

It’s also nice to see the Royals getting some early production out of top prospect Raul Mondesi. He’s not just showing his speed, but he’s showing some flashes of power in the early goings. His career high for home runs in a season is eight and he’s already got three.

There’s also a little bit of controversy, very little, over who may be sent down when Jarrod Dyson returns to the lineup. Reymond Fuentes has played well for the Royals in his limited at-bats, but hasn’t separated himself from Paulo Orlando.

Terrance Gore has made one appearance but he showed what a weapon he is on the base paths. He seems the most likely candidate to be re-assigned.
