Biggest Draft Busts Since 2011 – Number 1: Jonathan Baldwin

This should come as a surprise to no one, as not only is Jonathan Baldwin one of the biggest busts in recent draft history, but one of the biggest of all-time for Kansas City. Former KC Kingdom editor Josh Michaels had Baldwin as the third biggest bust in team history and I had him as one of the worst starters in the past ten years.

More from Chiefs Draft Analysis

The Chiefs selected Baldwin with the 26th overall pick in 2011 and he went on to do next to nothing in just two seasons as a Chief.

Before the 2011 season even began, Baldwin got in a fight with then running back Thomas Jones. Baldwin’s hand was fractured and he was sidelined for the first few weeks of the season as a result. That should have been a huge red flag right there that this was not the guy who was going to become a franchise wide receiver for the team.

Baldwin’s career in Kansas City ended after the 2012 season. He had 41 receptions for 579 yards and two measly touchdowns in just two years. He only started ten games and appeared in 26 total.

Before the 2013 season began, Baldwin was traded to the San Francisco 49ers for their version of Jonathan Baldwin in the form of A.J. Jenkins. Jenkins, unsurprisingly enough, didn’t pan out for the Chiefs either.

Jonathan Baldwin went on to do nothing in San Francisco and was waived after just one season. He briefly signed with Detroit, but never made it onto the regular season roster. He is out of the league at only 26 years old.
