Tonight the Royals begin their journey to defend the crown.

It’s been a very long off-season which is somewhat surprising considering just how short it actually was. In fact, only two teams in the league experienced and off-season as short as the one the Royals did.

All of the speculation and the heartache over the poor Spring Training results can be thrown out the window.

Today, the actual season starts. Pitches actually matter. Statistics actually matter. Most importantly, the scoreboard at the end of the game actually matters.

It’s a great time to be a Royals’ fan in Kansas City. The whole town has been waiting for this rematch for months and it’s finally time to see what is going to transpire.

The Royals made a statement last year on opening day and they’ll likely look to do the same thing this year. There has been a lot of speculation, no matter how unfounded, that the Royals’ statement may come in the form of bean ball wars.

That seems highly unlikely. The Royals already showed the Mets the most painful form of retribution they should need. They showed the Mets what it feels like to be on the losing end of the World Series.
