I do have a bias towards the Royals, but it does seem as if they’re in the middle of something special right now. They’re a team that recognizes what they have in their fans and they’re doing everything they can to say ‘thank you’ to all of you.

They’ve recently added some artwork to the area behind left field. It could have been the players celebrating their win on the field, but instead it was the players celebrating their win with all of the fans.

That’s not all the Royals are doing to keep the fans involved and make them feel like a part of what happened.

The Royals are opening the season with a fundraiser that goes towards a great cause. It’s called ‘Relay the Way’ and it’s going to be the longest ‘first pitch’ in history.

The Royals are giving fans the opportunity to participate in the first pitch of opening day by creating a relay throw over nine miles long. What better way to show the fans that they are just as much a part of the wins than to let them all have a chance at participating in the first pitch of opening day.

The fundraiser is to benefit the KC Urban Youth Academy. If everything they were doing for the community wasn’t enough, Salvador Perez and Alex Gordon turned around and gave a total of $1.75 million to the Youth Academy.

It has become clear to me that these players and this team genuinely care about the city and their fans. I watch a lot of baseball for a lot of teams, and this truly is something special.

The chemistry that the Royals have right now, not just with each other but with the city as well, is rare. Things like this don’t last forever and can be fleeting. Make the most of every game and enjoy the small victories.

Enjoy the players while they’re in their prime and make fond memories without getting too wrapped up in the future. All fans, whether new or old, casual or diehard, should be able to appreciate what’s going on.
