Today’s KC Royals news is focused on Tim Collins and the notion that the St. Louis Cardinals should be recognized as Missouri’s official baseball team.

Before diving into the REAL news that surrounds Tim Collins and the KC Royals, let’s have a little fun with some less important ‘news’. The Royals’ cross-state rivals the Cardinals have at least one fan throwing a little shade their way.

Missouri state representative Courtney A. Curtis has proposed house bill number 2831 that would declare the St. Louis Cardinals the official baseball team of Missouri. While this has been proven to be a jest, it’s still drawn the ire of some Royals’ faithful.

To wrap this us on behalf of all Royals’ fans everywhere: The Royals’ 1738 trumps the Cardinals 2831 at least for now.

Let’s move on to bigger and better things, or shorter and worse things depending on your point of view.

The Royals received some bad news when they learned that left-handed reliever Tim Collins would need a second Tommy John Surgery. The career underdog, literally, has been a fan favorite ever since his debut.

His short stature did little to slow down his fastball or stop him from striking out an impressive 12 batters per nine innings during his 2012 season. In his four years in the Major Leagues, the lefty carries an ERA of 3.54 and a Ks/9 of 9.4.

Hopefully, Tim Collins will be able to stage a comeback from this second Tommy John surgery. He hasn’t pitched since the 2014 season and spent some time in the Minor Leagues during that season.

Next: Dayton Moore's Reclamation Projects

Not many pitchers are able to bounce back from a second bout with this serious injury and if he does come back it may not be with the Royals. They did give him a one year contract for this season but it’ll probably be hard to justify doing that a second time.

He is a young man at only 26 years old so he does have that going for him. What do you think Royals’ fans? Will he bounce back and make a comeback? Will he be Dayton Moore’s next reclamation project? Let me know your thoughts in the comments’ section below.
