Honorable Mention Part II: A Chance To Claim The Throne

This play, like it’s earlier honorable mention brother, is by no means the best play that Mike Moustakas has ever made.

It is at least ironic that the same sequence of events took place in both ALCS clinching games.

This one had a little more at stake than the one before it did. He had to deal with the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position and had no room for error. The two cornerstones, literally, connected again to send the Royals back for another shot.

This time the crowd may have been even louder.

Unlike the year before when cheers erupted upon the ball being fielded, this time ‘MOOOOOSE!’ was echoing through the air. When Hosmer bounced off the bag this time, it seemed like nothing could get in their way this time.

More from KC Kingdom

Mike Moustakas has done a lot of great things for the KC Royals over the last couple of years. He’s become one of the best players on the team and is no longer unreliable at the plate.

If he has continued to work on pushing the ball to left field, he has a good shot at hitting around .300 for the season. It would be great to see him hit 30 home runs and .300 for the season.

Not only would that disprove any doubts that he’s had to overcome in his career, but it would further represent the kind of team the Royals have become.

They are now a team that doesn’t know how to quit. They don’t know what it means to look at projections and put any stock into them. They’ve learned to play the game on the field and let what looks good on paper stay there.

Mike Moustakas is in a Royals uniform for at least two more seasons and hopefully the Royals will find a way to lock him up long term. He’s a very vocal leader in the clubhouse and is one of the most likeable players in the game.
