Survivor Kaoh Rong aired its fifth episode on Wednesday, and former KU basketball player Scot Pollard found himself on a new tribe this week.

Scot Pollard made it through another episode of Survivor Kaoh Rong and might have even found himself a trustworthy alliance that he can work with down the stretch.

This week the three tribes were mixed up, going from those three tribes to two tribes of six. With Caleb’s evacuation last week, the numbers were lopsided and therefore, whoever drew the red buff would be going to the old brawn tribe’s camp alone. The good news is that that person would not participate in the immunity challenge and would therefore not have to go to tribal council.

Whoever drew the red buff would join the team who had to vote someone out at tribal council, which would mean they’d miss out on socializing for several days. Game changer.

Scot did not draw the red buff. Julia of the beauty tribe had that honor, and Scot found himself on the Gondol tribe. His tribe mates were Aubrey, Joe, and Peter of the brains tribe, and Anna and Tai of the beauty tribe. Jason and Cydney, Scot’s former tribemates, wound up on the Chan Lo tribe, so Scot was now a lone wolf in the game of Survivor.

Fortunately, things worked out well for the former Jayhawk. Let’s take a look at the three key moments for Scot Pollard in this week’s episode.

Key Moment #1: The tribe swap

What looked like a grim situation at first ended up working out well for Scot. The brains tribe, knowing that Julia would be joining them if they lost, wanted to get either Anna or Tai out so that they still held the numbers.

This put Scot in a good position, as they needed his vote if they wanted to get one of the beauties out.

So while most of the time, being the odd man out on a new tribe works against you, Scot found himself in the right situation.

Key Moment #2: Bonding with Tai

Who would have thought that Scot and Tai would become buddies? Scot liked Tai right off the bat, and admitted in a confessional that he had a man crush on Tai.

When Gondol lost immunity, Scot made it clear that if he had his pick, he’d want Anna out of the game over Tai. Tai confided in both Anna and Scot, telling them he found the idol and that he wanted to blindside Peter. He even showed the idol to both of them.

Scot thought it over and knew he had an edge in this game. He knew Jason had the idol and now he knew Tai had it. He knew about the “Super Idol” that can be used if two hidden immunity idols are put together and wanted to keep that in his back pocket.

Scot and Tai could be a dangerous duo down the stretch.

Key Moment #3: Voting out Anna

Rather than doing the flashy move and blindsiding Peter, Scot warned Tai not to play his idol when he was told that the brains alliance was going after Anna. This move allowed Tai to keep his hidden immunity idol, and allow Scot to potentially have a huge advantage should he make it to the merge.

Anna is a professional poker player and knew what she was doing in this game. She was trying to get Tai out as soon as the new tribe switched, by telling everyone he was looking for the idol early on in the game.

Getting Anna out was a smart move for Scot Pollard, and the former KU basketball star lives to see another day on Survivor Kaoh Rong.
