The KC Chiefs rumors have the team losing backup quarterback Chase Daniel to the Philadelphia Eagles.

It wasn’t expected that the Kansas City Chiefs would retain three-year back-up quarterback Chase Daniel, and now it seems as if the former Missouri Tiger star is for sure moving on to a possible greener pasture.

NFL Network NFL Insider Ian Rapoport is reporting, via Twitter and on NFL Network, that Daniel will be signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.

There are no details as to what kind of deal Daniel will be getting from the Eagles. Philadelphia’s coach is former Chiefs’ Offensive Coordinator, Doug Pederson.

According to Rapoport, since taking over the Eagles head coaching job, Pederson has targeted Daniel for the Eagles.

Daniel was a solid back-up for the Chiefs but starting quarterback Alex Smith has proven to be durable, so Daniel didn’t see much time on the field in Kansas City. He played in only ten games in three seasons with the Chiefs.

He completed 43 of his 68 pass attempts ( 63.2 percent) for 409 yards with the Chiefs, including his only career touchdown and interception. He rushed for 65 yards in Kansas City as well.

This doesn’t come as a surprise. Daniel earned $10 million in his three seasons in Kansas City. That is a lot of cash for someone who appeared in just ten games in those three seasons.

The Chiefs figure they have in-house options to replace Daniel. Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray are both still under contract for the Chiefs, as is Dominique Davis. Surely, one of those players can seize the backup role.

Murray and Bray have teased fans with some nice performances in previous camps and preseasons. It is time for one or the other to step forward and earn this backup spot. If both are healthy heading into camp in July, it might be a spirited competition.

It might be a good gauge of the Chiefs’ confidence of one or the other to take over. If they grab a quarterback early in the 2016 NFL Draft, then their future’s in Kansas City may be limited.

Chase Daniel didn’t get much of an opportunity to play in Kansas City but he could challenge for a starting job in Philadelphia. Because he played his college ball locally at Mizzou, he was a fan favorite and he will be missed.
