KC Chiefs News: Free Agency Officially Opens Today
By Scott Dillon
Today’s KC Chiefs news focused on one of the biggest dates of the off-season. Free agency officially opens today at four P.M. Eastern Standard Time.
The KC Chiefs are going to have one of their busiest days of the off-season today as the NFL free agency period officially opens. While nothing can become official until three p.m. Central Time, there has already been a flurry of activity.
The Chiefs have agreed to a new contract with future Chiefs’ hall of fame player Tamba Hali. The three year contract basically guarantees that he’ll be in a Chiefs’ jersey for the remainder of his career. He’s gaining on 100 career sacks and that would put him in a very elite list of pass rushers.
The Chiefs could also be losing quite a few players today. Sean Smith is almost certain to depart as several teams have visits lined up for the tall cornerback. Jaye Howard is also likely to depart which could leave the Chiefs with two big holes on defense.

2016 Chiefs: Is Bargain Shopping The Best Policy [Stacy B. Smith: Arrowhead Addict]
"This is a special time of the year for fans across the league. Hope springs eternal in every NFL city. If your beloved team can snag the right free agent, the addition just might help elevate them to the next level. Sure, buyers are encouraged to spend wisely, but few fans of faltering franchises will be satisfied with frugal front office work. I’m here to warn you that the first wave of free agency may be uneventful and rather inexpensive for Kansas City, but that shouldn’t be cause for concern. Every year, teams make low-profile signings that pay major dividends. Don’t believe me? I’ll prove it to you."
