NFL free agency begins on Wednesday, but some good news has already flowed in for the Kansas City Chiefs. Tamba Hali has agreed to a three-year deal with the team, according to Adam Schefter.

Well, Chiefs Kingdom, at least one of our studly defensive players is still beyond this season. News broke on Tuesday afternoon that outside linebacker Tamba Hali would indeed be staying in Kansas City, as he and the team agreed on a three-year deal.

This is great news for Chiefs fans everywhere. Tamba Hali is beloved here in Kansas City and him playing for another team just wouldn’t seem right.

Things seemed a little grim for Hali returning to the team when the Chiefs voided his contract just a few days ago. We were all hoping for the worst, but expecting the best, as the saying goes.

Something perplexing about this re-signing, however, is what the heck are the Chiefs going to do with Dee Ford now? Ford was drafted in the first round in the 2014 NFL Draft and many anticipated it was to fill the shoes of Hali.

Now that Hali is in Kansas City for at least three more years, what was the point of drafting Ford? I guess he provides depth, but it’s still rather interesting to think about.

Going back to Tamba though, he’s a legend here in Kansas City. KC Kingdom rated him as the 18th best Kansas City Chiefs player of all time. That’s not a stretch, as he’s been fantastic for the Chiefs ever since being their first round draft pick ten years ago.

Hali has had 428 tackles, 86 sacks, forced 33 fumbles, and defended 16 passes. He’s been to the Pro Bowl five times and has always been reliable for the KC Chiefs. This signing is a great day for the organization and for Chiefs fans everywhere.

The Chiefs will likely be hit hard over the next few days, probably losing Sean Smith and Jaye Howard, and potentially even Derrick Johnson. Keeping Hali is great because it keeps a Chiefs legend in Kansas City for his entire career.

It’s rare for guys to play their entire career with one team, but Tamba Hali is a special kind of NFL player. He’s one of the best and now he will down as one of the greatest players to ever don a Kansas City Chiefs uniform.
