KC Chiefs news is about the three-year anniversary of Alex Smith coming to Kansas City and the speculation of Robert Griffin III potentially being his backup.

The Kansas City Chiefs welcomed Alex Smith to their organization three years ago on Saturday (February 27th). It was a move that brought mixed reactions to Chiefs fans, but for the most part, many would say it’s worked out.

The Chiefs have had three straight winning seasons and have made it to the playoffs in two of those seasons. They also won a playoff game for the first time in 22 years.

Smith might not be the best quarterback in the NFL, but he’s far from the worst. He protects the football and is a smart quarterback. That’s huge in this league.

Speaking of Smith, the spot for his backup is wide open this offseason, and the Chiefs continue to be linked with free agent quarterbacks. One of the bigger names they’ve been linked with is former number two overall pick in 2012 Robert Griffin III, who spent his first four seasons with the Washington Redskins.

While RG3 coming to KC would be a little weird considering the guy’s talents, he is the type of quarterback that Andy Reid targets. He’s mobile and has a good arm. He’s also shown success with the Redskins in the past, but he’s had drama on and off the field, which is definitely concerning.

Some people might gripe that Alex Smith isn’t an elite quarterback, but just think about how much worse other teams have it. Did you see how bad Bryan Hoyer was in the playoffs? Have you heard of the Cleveland Browns?
