KC Chiefs News: Free Agency And The Draft
By Scott Dillon
Today’s KC Chiefs News focuses on Free Agency and The 2016 NFL Draft. There are a lot of questions and many options.
Over the next several weeks there is going to be a lot of speculation surrounding the Chiefs. Questions as to which way they’ll go in free agency and the draft will abound as a lack of Chiefs’ activity leaves a lot of room for creativity.
The Chiefs have several key players entering free agency. On the offensive side of the ball, notable potential departures include Jason Avant and Jeff Allen.
Jason Avant stepped up for the Chiefs in a big way in the Divisional Round game against the Patriots. He made several highlight-reel catches that kept the Chiefs in the game.
Jeff Allen was one of the bright spots on an offensive line that was ranked 22nd in the leauge by Pro-Football Focus. He’s certainly going to demand a decent salary and with potential replacements available via the draft, it’s worth contemplating his departure.
Seeing out Allen’s replacement by way of a rookie replacement could prove to be a costly gamble. It could also turn out to be a move that keeps some salary space intact to sign other players like Eric Berry, Derrick Johnson, or Sean Smith.

Kansas State Wildcats’ Cody Whitehair was recently ranked the best offensive guard in this draft class on at least one big board. If he could fall to the Chiefs in the second round, it would be worth a shot to draft him.
So much of what happens in the draft will depend on what occurs during free agency. For now, it’s nothing more than wild speculation and overactive imaginations at play.

Four Chiefs To Consider During Free Agency [Brandon Fry: Arrowhead Addict]
"The veteran wide receiver has aged and only contributed to 15 receptions for 119 yards last season but it’s more what Avant did in the playoffs that might be worth considering keeping him around. Avant’s game against the Patriots showed us that he still has something left in the tank and Alex Smith formed some chemistry with him in that game. While I wouldn’t expect Avant’s numbers to dramatically increase next season if Kansas City were to resign him there’s still a lot of value in player chemistry."

There is some hope that a deal with Eric Berry can be done as early as the end of the month. After that everything is likely to go quiet until March ninth when free agency opens at four p.m. eastern.
The Chiefs are coming off one of their best seasons in a long time and they’ll look to build on that success. John Dorsey and Andy Reid have done well in their three seasons, or rather off-seasons, as general manager and head coach.
They’ll be able to make the moves necessary to have the Chiefs functioning as a competitive unit again in 2016. After coming up a little short in 2015, they could come out hungry to prove their worth. It worked for their Truman Sports’ Complex brethren last season, maybe they’ll follow the same blueprint.
