KC Chiefs News: Eric Berry and Free Agency
KC Chiefs news focuses on Eric Berry and the rest of the Chiefs’ free agents. The Chiefs have a lot of free agents, but need to be scoping out the rest of the market too.
It’s no secret that the Kansas City Chiefs will have a busy offseason ahead of them. With guys like Husain Abdullah, Jeff Allen, Eric Berry, Chase Daniel, Mike DeVito, Tamba Hali, Jaye Howard, Derrick Johnson, Sean Smith, and others on the free agent market this offseason, Kansas City has their work cut out for them.
Let’s focus on Eric Berry though. Berry was the team’s first round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft and has been an inspiration to all of Chiefs Kingdom since then. Him coming back from cancer this past season was so incredible to watch, and even non Chiefs fans were rooting for the guy to do well.
With all of that said, Berry seems like a “must re-sign” type of player for Kansas City. Will the Chiefs be able to do so though? They have the option of franchise tagging at least one player, and my guess would be either Berry or Sean Smith would receive that lovely tag for the 2016 season.

The other area to keep in mind in free agency is who the Chiefs can bring in from other teams. One name that has unfortunately been linked to the KC Chiefs is trouble maker Johnny Manziel.
Manziel, a former first round pick by Cleveland in 2014, is likely going to be released from the Browns, and the Chiefs have supposedly expressed interest in him. This would be a huge mistake, as A) the Chiefs already have a quarterback, and B) Johnny Manziel brings trouble with him wherever he goes. Kansas City doesn’t need Manziel, and I hope Andy Reid and company stay away.

While free agency can be a stressful time for fans, just remember that John Dorsey and Reid know what they’re doing. They’ve gone out and signed great talent before for reasonable prices, and don’t expect that to change. Some of the big names might have to be let go, but that’s the name of the game.
