Players that could be let go

Tamba Hali (Outside Linebacker)

As much as it hurts to say it, I think that it is time to let Tamba Hali go.

This season he was able to get six and a half sacks, but he was not healthy at any point in the season. He has been battling a swollen knee that keeps him from practicing on the indoor field, and he also broke his thumb at the end of the season.

Hali is going to be in the Chiefs’ Hall of Fame eventually. He was a play maker and a relentless player. In his ten seasons with the Chiefs he counted for 428 solo tackles and 86 sacks.

I know that there is a chance that he could come back next year, but why would we sign him when age is turning in to a factor? The presence of Dee Ford as an explosive young player further impedes Hali’s return.  Ford will be expected to step up.

I believe that its time to see Tamba leave, but only time will tell. After he gets healthy and if both sides can agree on a contract, he may retire a Chief.

Cornerback #31 Marcus Cooper

In 2013, Marcus Cooper had a breakout season and was looking to be a star. Then the following season he was benched due to poor play and lack of consistency.

In 2015, he was beat out of his spot by rookie Marcus Peters and for obvious reasons never returned to the starting line up.

In 2015 he was not a factor in any situation, and I feel that if another corner was needed the Chiefs would turn to rookie Steve Nelson before Cooper. I am pretty sure we have seen the last of Marcus Cooper.
