KC Chiefs News: Marcus Peters, Dwayne Bowe and More

facebooktwitterreddit

The latest KC Chiefs news puts the Chiefs in control of their own playoff destiny, despite some concerning injuries.

The KC Chiefs host one of the worst teams in the NFL today according to wins and losses. The Cleveland Browns (3-11) have won one game since Oct. 11, and they allow an AFC-worst 27.6 points per game.

The Browns are 29th in the NFL in rushing offense, and their -8 difference in take-aways to give-aways is indicative of the team’s dysfunction.

It sounds like a home run for the home favorites, but the Kansas City Chiefs will have challenges of their own today.

For one, they’re in trouble at linebacker. Justin Houston is out.  Tamba Hali did not practice this week and is listed as questionable. He broke his thumb last week against the Ravens, underwent surgery Tuesday and yet still wasn’t ruled out for today’s game as of last night. (Kansas City Star)

Linebacker Dee Ford, who was listed on the injury report this week, did practice in full on Wednesday and Thursday and will have his work cut out for him today. Ford, Frank Zombo and Dezman Moses will get All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas.

In nine seasons, Thomas has made nine Pro Bowls (including this season). He’s a five-time first team All-Pro and he’s as tough a matchup at tackle as the Chiefs will see all season. According to ClevelandBrowns.com:

"“From his play to his preparation, to the way he treats people, to the way he approaches each day – there is a reason why he is going to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer because he just does everything right,” offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said."

The Chiefs, though, have established themselves as a top ten team in the league.  They’re second in the NFL at +15 in take-aways to give-aways. Only the 14-0 Panthers are better in that category. They’re best in the AFC with just 12 giveaways all season.

Five Chiefs were named to the Pro Bowl this week. Eric Berry, Justin Houston, Tamba Hali, Travis Kelce and Marcus Peters will represent Kansas City in Honolulu in January of 2016. More Chiefs could join them as replacements.

Today is also the return of longtime Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe. He’ll enter Arrowhead Stadium for the first time as an opposing player, although he hasn’t done much in his time with the Browns.

If the Chiefs can win tomorrow on what projects to be a sloppy track with the weather in Kansas City, they’ll be sitting right on the door step of a postseason berth. If the playoffs started last night, the Chiefs would play a round one game on the road against the Houston Texans.

There’s plenty to sort out in the AFC West these final two weeks. Look for the Chiefs to finish strong and, perhaps, complete the unthinkable with a 10-game winning streak to wrap up the regular season.

"“So is Marcus Peters a pretty good corner already? Yes. Is he a great corner and a shoe in to be a long-term starting caliber NFL cornerback? I wouldn’t say so just yet.”"

"Corey Coleman is perhaps the most explosive wide receiver in the 2016 NFL Draft along with Laquan Treadwell of the Ole Miss Rebels. Coleman does play in the pass-happy offense at the University of Baylor, but 20 touchdowns are still impressive."
