KC Chiefs: Jeremy Maclin Continues To Make An Impact

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs have had quite the turnaround this year. From looking like a team that was surely going to earn a top five draft pick, the Chiefs have since won eight straight games on their way to a 9-5 record.

While the Kansas City Chiefs‘ defense is the team’s biggest attribute, Jeremy Maclin deserves a huge round of applause for what he’s provided the team with. In 13 games this season (he missed one game due to an injury), Maclin has 985 receiving yards off 79 receptions and a total of six touchdowns.

Now we all know last season how the Chiefs did not have a single wide receiver touchdown all year. That changed in week three this season when Maclin grabbed the first one in almost two years while at Lambeau Field.

All season long, Alex Smith has felt comfortable with Maclin down the field, and it’s shown. He’s not only been getting the ball to the former Mizzou wide receiver, but he’s been throwing the ball down field more often as well.

When you look at the wide receivers Smith has had during his three seasons as the KC Chiefs quarterback, it makes sense why this has been his best year in Kansas City. Dwayne Bowe is not nearly the type of receiver that Maclin has proven to be, and once the Chiefs have a set number two wide receiver, this offense could be extremely dangerous.

The best part about Jeremy Maclin being in Kansas City is that the Chiefs finally have that true number one receiver on the field. Bowe just wasn’t that. He dropped a lot of easy grabs, and was never that guy that Smith connected with on the field.

Maclin’s presence was felt immediately, as he had 52 and 57 yards respectively in his first two games in a Chiefs uniform. His week three and four games saw him getting over 140 yards in each, and he got his first touchdown as a Chief during that stretch as well.

Jeremy Maclin’s best performances in red and white came in back to back weeks. One was in week 12 when the Chiefs hosted Buffalo, and the other was when the Chiefs headed to Oakland. The Buffalo game saw Maclin get nine grabs out of 11 targets for 160 yards and a touchdown.

The next week, he followed up with another spectacular game, making nine catches out of ten targets with 95 yards and two trips to the end zone.

Maclin has been a huge difference maker for this team, and really has proven to fans that Alex Smith can be a good quarterback if he has a reliable receiver down the field. Jeremy Maclin has been just that.

Hopefully Maclin continues to make plays for this football team and the KC Chiefs can bring home their first playoff win in over 20 years.
