KU Basketball: Where To Watch Jayhawks Vs Loyola Maryland
By Alec Tilson
KU Basketball returns home to take on one-win Greyhounds. It will be the debut of highly-anticipated freshman Cheick Diallo.
The Kansas Jayhawks hoisted the 2015 Maui Invitational trophy last week on its way to a 4-1 start to the season. It was the first time coach Bill Self has won the tournament, and now the Jayhawks return to middle-America for a five-game home stand.
It’s officially Diallo Day today in Lawrence, as No. 4 Kansas prepares to take the court for a game at Allen Fieldhouse for the first time in 17 days. Touted freshman Cheick Diallo was ruled eligible by the NCAA last week, and he’ll come off the bench tonight, according to KUSports.com.
The Loyola Maryland Greyhounds (1-5) are coached by G.G. Smith – the son of 1998 National Champion coach Tubby Smith. The team’s lone win this season came against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Retrievers.
In Maui, Kansas was led by junior Wayne Selden Jr., who was just named Big 12 co-player of the week. Selden averaged better than 19 points in Hawaii, grabbing 4.3 rebounds and adding 3.3 assists in those three games. Perhaps the most promising sign is that Selden poured in 25 points in the championship game victory over Vanderbilt.

While Selden leads KU with 17.0 points per game this season (he’s shooting 54 percent from the floor), fellow upperclassmen Perry Ellis and Frank Mason III are doing their parts as well. Ellis is averaging 15.4 points and six assists, while Mason is stuffing just about every statistical category with 13 points, five rebounds and six assists per game.
It will be the first chance for Kansas fans to see the highly-regarded freshman. But for Diallo, it will be all about just finding his role and making his team better, according to Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star):
"“Of course, I have to score,” Diallo says. “But I just got to make my team good. Not like, ‘Oh, Cheick make 40 points, Cheick make 20 points.’ No, I’m not going to do that. I just want to do whatever make my team look good.”"
Kansas will be without junior guard Brannen Greene, who will sit out the fourth game of his six-game suspension. He’s set to return when KU takes on Oregon State at the Sprint Center on Dec. 12, but we all know how much can change in a couple weeks. And we all know how little we know about the actual state of the Brannen Greene, Bill Self situation.
