KC Royals: What A Championship Would Mean For Kansas City

facebooktwitterreddit

As the KC Royals are playing in the World Series for the second consecutive year, we all know that they are so close but still so far.

The Kansas City Royals can’t lose the World Series two straight years. No one wants to do that. To me, I would rather have a team that doesn’t make the World Series than a team that makes it and loses, especially twice and in back to back years.

Just to be clear, I am extremely excited about having a team in title contention, but if they do lose and then make it again next year and lose, there will be some disappointment around the thought of this team.

If the Kansas City Royals win it all this season, it would mean the world to everyone who has ever cheered or played for a Kansas City sports team.

The Royals would end the drought of championships that has gone on for so long. Last year it was just great to be in the World Series, this year is different. This team is on a mission to end its 30-year drought.

Just three years ago, this team was towards the bottom of baseball, and now they are at the top. It is amazing.

A 2015 World Series championship would bring a sense of respect back to Kansas City sports. For as much as I love them, I have to admit that the Chiefs and Royals are either at the bottom of the league, or they are really good but don’t win playoff games (directed more towards the Chiefs).

A championship would make Kansas City regarded as a baseball town and a glimmer of hope for all of the small market teams in any sport. The Royals beat the odds, especially when playing in a league with no salary cap.

Another thing a championship would bring is Kansas City might even become a free agent destination. Now I know the KC Royals don’t have the money like the Yankees or Dodgers, but players who are trying to prove they can still produce like Kendrys Morales would love to play for a team like Kansas City.

It would also increase the likelihood of the teams core staying in KC for many years to come. Who knows, it may even keep Johnny Cueto in town whether that be good or bad.

Lastly, the Royals would get a pretty sick ESPN 30 for 30.

In about five or more years, someone would decide to make one, and you know that will be fun to watch.

It could start with Alex Gordon, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, and Salvador Perez going up the ranks from minor league to MLB and the progress they made on the way.

Next could be the Zack Greinke trade that brought Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar to Kansas City.

It could then show the progression of this team from worst to first and then it would finish with showing them as the 2015 World Series Champions.

Simply put, if/when the Kansas City Royals win the 2015 World Series would mean so much more to the Kansas City area than for the Yankees or some other big market team.

People in the KC area value their teams more, and they stick with them through thick and thin.
