Kansas City Royals: 2016 Schedule Announced
In the midst of all of the excitement concerning the Kansas City Royals and their 11 game lead in the American League Central, Major League Baseball has released the schedules for next season.
The Royals’ 2016 season will kick off on April 4th at Kauffman Stadium against the New York Mets. With the way both of these teams are playing this season, it’s entirely possible that this could be a World Series rematch come April.
The Mets have one of the best pitching rotations in all of baseball so it will not be an easy opening series for the Kansas City Royals in the least bit.

This will mark the second consecutive year that the Royals will have a true home opener at Kauffman Stadium. Two years ago they played in Detroit, but later had their home opener against the White Sox. 2015 saw Kansas City hosting the White Sox again, but this time in a true opening day.
The Royals will go on to host the Minnesota Twins the following weekend, and then travel to Houston for the Astros’ opening day, and then will head to Oakland.
The early season action against the Mets will be the only action against a National League opponent the Royals have until a month later when they’ll host the Washington Nationals in early May. They’ll also host the Atlanta Braves the weekend after.
The Royals/Cardinals series continues again in 2015, as the Royals will host the Cardinals for two games at the end of June, and then travel to St. Louis for the other two games. This is typically how the series between these two teams works, but this current season was different since it was Kansas City’s turn to play the NL Central.

The Royals will also travel to play the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins in National League play.
They’ll close out their season against the Cleveland Indians in early October at Kauffman Stadium.
Obviously it’s still too early to get super excited about the 2016 season, as the 2015 season is still underway and there will more than likely be a second consecutive Blue October celebration in Kansas City this year.
Still though, it’s exciting to learn that our boys in blue will get to host their second consecutive opening day, and that it’ll be against a solid National League opponent. Hopefully that day will consist of several different celebrations, but most importantly, let’s hope it consists of the Kansas City Royals hoisting up a 2015 World Series Champions flag.
