All but one of the guys on this list are already on the 40-man roster for the Kansas City Royals, and the one who isn’t is Kyle Zimmer. The chances of Zimmer getting brought up aren’t as strong as the other nine, but there is still a shot that the Royals could decide to give their first round pick some big league experience.

Royals 40-Man Roster:

  • Pitchers: Tim Collins (60-day DL), Johnny Cueto, Wade Davis, Danny Duffy, Brian Flynn (60-day DL), Jeremy Guthrie, Kelvin Herrera, Luke Hochevar, Greg Holland, Ryan Madson, Michael Mariot, Kris Medlen, Franklin Morales, Yohan Pino, Jason Vargas (15-day DL), Yordano Ventura, Edinson Volquez, Chris Young
  • Catchers: Drew Butera, Francisco Pena, Salvador Perez
  • Infield: Orlando Calixte, Dusty Coleman, Christian Colon, Cheslor Cuthbert, Alcides Escobar, Eric Hosmer, Omar Infante, Mike Moustakas, Ben Zobrist
  • Outfield: Lane Adams, Jorge Bonifacio, Lorenzo Cain, Jarrod Dyson, Reymond Fuentes, Alex Gordon (15-day DL), Terrance Gore, Paulo Orlando, Alex Rios
  • Designated Hitter: Kendrys Morales

Looking at this list, there are 38 spots taken, as the 60-day DL guys don’t count against the roster.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Royals decide to do further down the stretch when the playoffs are nearing. Will Jeremy Guthrie continue to be on the roster? What about Alex Rios?

While I think it’d be highly unlikely that Rios would go anywhere, Guthrie’s status with the team come postseason time isn’t certain.

All in all, it’s fun to be speculating about this, and we should start hearing about the call-ups once August is officially over.
