KC Royals News: Gregg Zaun And Drama
KC Royals news focuses on the benches clearing incident in Toronto and how Gregg Zaun made his opinions known on Yordano Ventura’s attitude.
The Kansas City Royals continued to live up to their bad boys of baseball name when the benches cleared in Toronto this past weekend against the Blue Jays. Things started when Edinson Volquez hit Josh Donaldson with a pitch in the first inning. Later, Ryan Madson hit Troy Tulowitski.
Neither pitcher was ejected and not trying to be biased here, but both looked accidental.
Aaron Sanchez then went on to hit Alcides Escobar and was immediately ejected from the game, which caused the benches to clear. The drama after the game began when Jose Bautista said he didn’t respect Ned Yost, which then sent Yordano Ventura into a tweeting tailspin. Ventura since deleted the tweets, which were in another language (and translated by someone).
So then Gregg Zaun jumped into the picture, and completely called out Ventura, telling him “stop writing cheques you can’t cash”. Needless to say, Royals fans are not fond of Zaun.

KC Royals: Good News And Bad News About Greg Holland [John Viril, Kings of Kauffman]
"Even so, at age 29, Greg Holland hasn’t been quite the same guy that won the Mariano Rivera award as the best reliever in the American League last season for the Kansas City Royals. In particular, his fastball velocity is down a full two miles per hour from 2014 (93.7 mph in 2015, down from 95.7 mph in 2014). The loss in velocity has seen Holland’s strikeouts per nine innings (K/9) drop under 10 for the first time in his career (9.6)."

"With all of that said, should the KC Royals go out and try to get another pitcher off waivers, or make a trade if some pitchers were to make it through waivers without being claimed?"

"The Royals-Blue Jays series this weekend has been very intense with a postseason-like atmosphere. Four batters were hit with pitches in the first three games of the series, but it’s worth noting the Jays did the plunking — three of those four were Royals, including two Saturday."

Blue Jays Analyst Gregg Zaun Went on a WWE-Style Rant Against Yordano Ventura [Mike Cardillo, The Big Lead]
"Sportsnet pregame analyst Gregg Zaun, a former journeyman Major League catcher, ensured that this story isn’t going away with a WWE-style rant lobbed at Ventura for “running his mouth.” Zaun did offer some salient critiques, most notably that it’s a lot easier for Ventura to stir the pot with 100 mph fastballs when pitchers don’t have to bat in the American League. He also mentioned the only reason Ventura isn’t in the minors is because Jason Vargas blew out his elbow."
