KC Royals News: Mike Moustakas And Trade Targets

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Royals news fixates on Mike Moustakas making it into the All-Star Game, which is taking place next week. Trade targets are also being speculated due to Alex Gordon’s injury that will keep him out of action for around eight weeks.

The KC Royals had an impressive week and things became even more impressive when Mike Moustakas was voted into his first All-Star Game. Moose received over 19 million votes from the fans in Kansas City (and elsewhere) and it got his ticket punched to Cincinnati.

Moustakas will join five of his teammates in Cincy: Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, and Salvador Perez are starting, and Wade Davis and Kelvin Herrera earned spots on the American League team as well. Alex Gordon was voted in as a starter, but his injury he sustained on Wednesday will keep him out of the game for the second year in a row.

Speaking of Gordon, he will miss eight weeks due to a groin injury he suffered against the Tampa Bay Rays while chasing down a fly ball. The boys in blue proved they could win without their fearless leader though, going 2-1 without Gordo, and looking like a solid team overall.

Despite Gordo not being out for the season, the Royals still might want to consider trading for an outfielder. Even if they trade for someone, Gordo’s ability in left field will be irreplaceable.

"With the news coming Thursday morning that the KC Royals left fielder Alex Gordon to miss eight weeks with a grade-two groin strain, general manger Dayton Moore might seek help on the trade market."

Royals Rumors: Royals Should Trade For Jeff Samardzija [KC Kingdom]

"Samardzija would give the Royals a strike-thrower who can chew up innings – something the team doesn’t have right now. He’s a legitimate horse, posting 213.2 innings in 2013 and 219.2 innings in 2014. The Royals have seen him a bit since he was traded to the American League last July, but what type of pitcher is he?"

Kansas City Royals: Alex Rios Is A Lost Cause [KC Kingdom]

"While the All-Star break could give Rios some time to collect himself and figure out a new strategy, the Royals can’t afford for a guy to spend multiple months figuring himself out. They’re on a great pace right now (as of July 10th), sitting in first place and 4.5 games ahead of the Minnesota Twins."

"Nick Kenney, the Royals’ head athletic trainer, says Gordon will miss eight weeks with a grade two-plus strain, but it still depends on how the recovery process goes. Therefore, the Royals need to find an efficient way to replace Gordon, who was batting .279/.394/.457 with 32 runs scored, 11 home runs and 39 RBIs before the injury, on top of being the best defensive left fielder in the MLB."
