This Kansas City Royals bullpen is fun to watch. While some of them have their bad appearances, most of the time, you feel good handing a game over to them because you know they’ll take care of business and the Royals will go on to add another notch in the win column.

Obviously Wade Davis is the best reliever in the bullpen, but after that it’s certainly debatable. I feel like Ryan Madson could be the second best guy in the bullpen, but he’s given up more home runs than anyone else.

Greg Holland and Kelvin Herrera have both remained great in 2014, but you can tell Holland’s command is down from seasons prior. Both have given up home runs this season, which is just weird to witness honestly.

As for the lesser relievers, Luke Hochevar has been disappointing, but his stuff has been pretty good. He’s just thrown out there when the game is out of hand anyway (although he did recently see an appearance in a close game and dealt). Hochevar is slowly getting back to form though and was recently used in a tight ball game, not allowing a run.

I remember watching the Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles play in the postseason last year, and the Tigers had the lead late into the game. The game was handed over to their bullpen and the Tiger relievers completely blew it. Right then and there I was thinking, “Man, the Royals have such a good bullpen. I can’t take that for granted EVER”.

Having a good bullpen wins games and that proved true, as the Royals made it all the way to Game 7 of the World Series last season behind that stagnant bullpen.

Let’s hope the same holds true for 2015.
