KC Chiefs News: Josh Cribbs Linked To Chiefs

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs news consists mostly of free agency talk and who the Chiefs might bring aboard before the 2015 season is set to kick off in a few months.

The KC Chiefs have been linked with a few names during the off season as far as free agency goes. Jeremy Maclin was obviously the first one and that ended up working out nicely for the Kansas City Chiefs. Maclin fills a desperate need in the wide receiver position for the Chiefs.

Ben Grubbs was next in line, coming to Kansas City via New Orleans in exchange for a fifth round pick. Grubbs will help bolster the offensive line, which struggled to protect Alex Smith at all last season.

Recently, the Chiefs are being linked with former Browns/Jets/Colts wide receiver and return specialist Josh Cribbs. Cribbs played college football at Kent State and went undrafted in 2005. He spent eight seasons with the Cleveland Browns, where he earned three trips to the Pro Bowl and had over 11,000 yards on kick returns and over 2,000 on punt returns.

Cribbs would not be a starter in Kansas City, but he could easily provide a veteran presence for Smith, and could mentor some of the younger receivers on the team.

Here are some posts from around Fansided.com.

KC Chiefs: Should Chiefs Sign Josh Cribbs [KC Kingdom]

"Cribbs hasn’t looked very good the past two seasons, which is certainly concerning. He’s also predominantly a return specialist, which isn’t a great need for the Kansas City Chiefs. At this point though, the Chiefs really can’t be all that picky about potential veteran wide receivers they could sign."

"Smith is certainly a great choice. Despite being one of Pro Football Focus’ top five corners in 2014 and someone who shut down the league’s best receivers every week, Smith did not make the Pro Bowl. He is seldom talked about as one of the best in the game, but clearly is deserving of major money (and he will get it) when he hits free agency."

KC Chiefs: Ten Worst Starters In Past Ten Years [KC Kingdom]

"The KC Chiefs have had two consecutive winning seasons, the first time they’ve done so since the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Heading into 2015, the Chiefs have one of the best rosters they’ve sported in years, but still have to face the Broncos and Chargers twice a year, both of whom are good teams as well."

Free agent Josh Cribbs has apparently drawn the Kansas City Chiefs interest [Arrowhead Pride]

"Cribbs’ best receiving season came in 2011 when he had 41 receptions for 518 yards. That was nearly double his previous career highs so I wouldn’t look at him as much of a receiver. He’s more of a returner where he had eight kick return touchdowns in his first five years in the league. That was a long time ago although Cribbs did lead the league with an average of 32 yards per kick return on 19 attempts last season with the Colts."

"The 2015 season should be a different story for Smith, as general manager John Dorsey and head coach Andy Reid worked hard this offseason in adding players to help improve the offense.Smith was sacked 45 times last season, tying Matthew Stafford for the fourth-most in the league."
