KC Royals News: Starters Struggle But All-Stars Aplenty
By Mike Norris
KC Royals news this week has focused on pitching (or lack thereof), and some surprisingly great All-Star news. The offense could use a jump start, and may get one as early as Friday.
The KC Royals were on top of the baseball world Saturday night after taking the first two games of the series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Since then, they’ve dropped four in a row and have slim leads over Minnesota and Detroit in the Al Central.
Pitching has hurt the team during that streak, surrendering 29 runs. However, the offense has gone cold as well, scoring a measly five runs during the stretch. Hopefully, as KCRoyals.com reports below, right fielder Alex Rios could return to the lineup as early as Friday. Rios has been out since the first week of the season with a fractured hand.
Even with the return of Rios, the questions remain whether or not the starting pitching can lead the team to a second-straight playoff appearance, and will general manager Dayton Moore make a mid-season move to bolster the rotation.
On the good news front, the Royals have dominated early All-Star voting, placing six position players among the top-1o players receiving votes.
Here’s what’s buzzing on Fansided.com.

KC Royals: Five Projected to Start All-Star Game [KC Kingdom]
"The KC Royals would have five starters in the 2015 MLB All-Star game if voting ended today. Surely a lot can happen between now and July, but the results are indicative of a great first quarter of the season by Kansas City."
KC Royals Must Add Legitimate Starting Pitcher [KC Kingdom]
"The KC Royals have had a memorable start to the 2015 season. The only lingering problem for the team is the starting pitching rotation. The original starting five pitchers at the start of the season were Yordano Ventura, Danny Duffy, Edinson Volquez,Jason Vargas, and Jeremy Guthrie."
Royals Lose Third Straight as Jason Vargas Returns [Kings of Kauffman]
"Two weeks ago in Kansas City, the Royals outscored the New York Yankees 19-6 while winning the series. Now, here in New York, the AL East leading Yankees are returning the favor. On the night after Jeremy Guthrie turned in a historically bad performance before a national audience and on the day it was announced that the KC Royals are dominating the early All-Star balloting, the Boys in Blue were looking for a strong bounce back game from Jason Vargas as he made his return to the rotation after being activated off the Disabled List."
KC Royals: Five Reason They are Better than Detroit Tigers [KC Kingdom]
"The KC Royals sit atop the American League Central (and are second in Major League Baseball) with a 28-16 record, but wins and losses do not always tell the story."
"Especially in a baseball season, pre-June records can be very deceiving. In fact, the Minnesota Twins sit in second place, one game ahead of the Detroit Tigersand two behind Kansas City, but there aren’t too many experts picking them to make the playoffs just yet."

With 5-1 Loss to Yankees, Royals Enter First Losing Streak of Season [Kansas City Star]

They bent to reality on Tuesday evening, dropping their third game in a row for the first time in 2015, this one a 5-1 loss to the Yankees."
