KC Royals: Five Projected To Start All-Star Game

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Royals would have five starters in the 2015 MLB All-Star game if voting ended today. Surely a lot can happen between now and July, but the results are indicative of a great first quarter of the season by Kansas City.

Alex Gordon (LF), Lorenzo Cain (CF), Mike Moustakas (3B), Alcides Escobar (SS), and Salvador Perez are the American League leading vote-getters at their respective positions when MLB.com released its early voting result today. Perez leads all AL players with 1,447,753 votes.

I wrote last week that it would be possible for the Royals to have 5-7 players on the team, but that was total. These results don’t even count what some would consider to be Kansas City’s MVP so far this season — Eric Hosmer.

It’s hard to get the start when a former Triple Crown winner plays the same position, but make no mistake, Hosmer, who is next in line behind Miguel Cabrera in terms of votes, will be named to the team.

Set-up man Wade Davis is a given, so if these results stand, the Royals will have a minimum of seven players on the squad. Starters Chris Young and Edinson Volquez, along with relievers Kelvin Herrera, Jason Frasor and Ryan Madson all have a shot at being named to the team as well.

Designated Hitter Kendrys Morales is second in voting for his position behind Seattle’s Nelson Cruz. Even second baseman Omar Infante got in to the act, trailing only Houston’s Jose Altuve in voting for his position.

While the Royals deserve to be recognized for their talent, it’s clear KC fans are supporting their team by getting out and voting often.

There could certainly be changes in the ballots before the July 2 deadline, but look for plenty of Royal Blue representation at the game no matter what. Below are the stats for each Royal projected to start, as well as the Top-10 overall vote-getters.
