Kansas City Chiefs: What’s Next For Dwayne Bowe

The Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with wide receiver Dwayne Bowe on Thursday afternoon. Bowe was drafted out of LSU by the Chiefs with the 23rd overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
Now those of you reading my posts for the past year know I wasn’t big on Bowe. I considered him to be a dropper and was never impressed with his route running, but I do wish him luck in the NFL and I do think he can be a good wide receiver in the league.

We saw a glimpse of Dwayne Bowe as an elite receiver during the 2010 season when the Kansas City Chiefs went 10-6 and won the AFC West for the first time since 2003. Bowe had 15 touchdowns that year and 1,162 receiving yards.
When you look at the quarterbacks Dwayne Bowe had over the years, it’s impressive that he had as good of seasons as he did, especially in 2008 with Brodie Croyle, Damon Huard, and Tyler Thigpen as his quarterbacks. Bowe had 1,022 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in the 2008 season.
Alex Smith is arguably the best quarterback Bowe had in Kansas City though, and he didn’t put up good enough stats to live up to his five year $54 million dollar deal he signed during the 2013 off season.
As reminder, here are QBs Bowe played with in KC: Huard, Croyle, Thigpen, Cassel, Palko, Orton, Quinn, Smith and Daniel.

So what’s next for Dwayne Bowe?
Well, as my co-editor John Viril mentioned in his initial post on Bowe being released, the wide receiver had followed the New England Patriots Twitter account at one point. Mike Loyko, Patriots and NFL draft analyst, observed this and tweeted it out on Monday.
Loyko then reported a few hours later that Bowe had unfollowed the account. Still though, the Patriots would be a decent fit for Bowe, and it’d be interesting to see what he could do with Tom Brady as his quarterback. I’m a fan of Alex Smith, but the deep ball hasn’t been his friend during his time in Kansas City. Another team that is apparently interested in Bowe is the Cleveland Browns.
Can confirm the #Browns are interested in former #Chiefs Dwayne Bowe

The Browns are likely a worse fit for Bowe than the Chiefs were. For one, they don’t have a set quarterback at the moment between Johnny Manziel and Josh McCown, and two… It’s the Browns. Bowe wouldn’t see much success there, I don’t think.
Now just my personal take, but I could see Bowe heading to the New Orleans Saints. He’s originally from Louisiana, went to college at LSU, and the Saints just traded away one of their best targets in Jimmy Graham. I know Bowe’s a receiver, and Graham’s a tight end, but still. Drew Brees wouldn’t complain about having a guy at Bowe’s size to throw the football too. I think the Saints would be a great fit for Dwayne Bowe.
With all of this said, I wish Dwayne Bowe the best of luck. I just hope he doesn’t go to an AFC West rival.
