Kansas Jayhawks: Joe Lunardi Has Kansas As A Two Seed In NCAA Tournement

facebooktwitterreddit

In his most recent Bracketology release, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Kansas Jayhawks as a #2 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. This comes as somewhat of a surprise as this update came after the two recent losses to West Virginia and Kansas State (two of Kansas’ last three games).

So why would the Bracketology genius still have the Kansas Jayhawks holding on to a number two seed after two losses so close together, including one to an unranked Kansas State squad?

  • Well to me it’s simple, there’s really no viable team to replace them with.

Looking deeper into Lunardi’s bracket, his four three seeds are Iowa State, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah. None of these teams really have the resumé to overtake the Jayhawks’ last slot on the two seed line. In fact, Kansas has already beaten three of these four teams.

Other teams that could potentially pose a threat to the Jayhawks’ seeding include Notre Dame, Northern Iowa (remember them Jayhawk fans?), and Wichita State, who all are on the four seed line according to Lunardi.

The Jayhawks have three games left in this season, and they are all tough games that may convince the actual NCAA committee that they deserve a number two seed in the tournament.

The bottom line is that the Kansas Jayhawks have their work cut out for them, and it’s time to earn that Big 12 crown that they always seem to bring home.

First, they take on the Texas Longhorns in Lawrence Saturday on ESPN’s College Game Day, next comes in West Virginia fresh off of a defeat of the Jayhawks, and finally a road game versus Oklahoma to finish off the regular season.

As a Kansas fan, I am scared to death of these last three games.

Texas is a big, physical rebounding team that can out-rebound the Jayhawks with ease on any given night, which can cause problems on both ends of the floor. West Virginia has not only proven that they can beat the Jayhawks, but they have proved that they can disrupt the Jayhawks on offense with their press and on the boards with their ridiculous offensive rebounding.

Last, but not least, the Jayhawks will travel to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners. Let me remind you that when the Jayhawks beat them the first time in Lawrence, they first lost a 20+ point lead that ultimately almost lead to a loss, before a late push saved the day.

In all honesty, I wouldn’t be too surprised if the Jayhawks lost two out of these next three regular season games, and dropped to a three or four seed in the NCAA Tournament come mid-March.

THIS IS EVEN BEFORE THE BIG 12 TOURNAMENT.

The bottom line is that the Kansas Jayhawks have their work cut out for them, and it’s time to earn that Big 12 crown that they always seem to bring home. It’s time to see if this Jayhawks team really can compete with the best of them night in and night out as the postseason gets nears.
