Kansas Jayhawks: Will Wayne Selden Enter NBA Draft

facebooktwitterreddit

Wayne Selden is one of the undisputed leaders and most talented players on the Kansas Jayhawks roster this year. The roster honestly is pretty stacked from top to bottom and of course with a program like Kansas, you hear the questions asked every single year about almost every player in the lineup:

Will Wayne Selden decide to forego his Junior season at Kansas and enter the 2015 NBA Draft?

Well let’s first look at Selden from a NBA General Manager’s point of view. He is an average to smaller sized NBA 2-guard at 6 foot 5, and plays more like a small forward meaning he isn’t the best ball-handler out there.

I think most NBA scouts find issues with Selden’s game because not only is he a below average ball-handler for what is expected from an off-guard in the NBA, but he doesn’t really have guard intangibles to play in the NBA just yet in my opinion.

From an offensive standpoint, Selden is a very well-balanced shooting guard who can do a bit of everything. He is also a guy who has yet to display that one “go to” skill he can do at an elite level that most NBA players have, according to David Ray of nbadraft.net.

Ray goes on to point out that Selden’s finishing at the rim ability, free-throw shooting, and slashing ability all need improvement before he will be considered a good NBA prospect.

While this probably isn’t what Wayne wants to hear, it looks like he is going to be a three or more likely a four-year player for Kansas, barring any bizarre output in this upcoming NCAA postseason. Selden might not want to hear this, but Kansas fans should be ecstatic with the likelihood of one of the team’s most productive players returning to the team next year.

Mike Norris of Through the Phog provided some insight to when Selden might be drafted, according to his source, draftexpress.com.

"Selden is currently the No. 43 projected player — in 2016. That means he would be a second-rounder in next year’s draft."

Next year’s team outlook is definitely looking strong, as it is likely that Selden, along with Perry Ellis, Frank Mason, Jamari Traylor, Devante Graham, and others should be back and improved next year in what should be one of the better teams in the last few years when considering the growing chemistry between them.

I am looking way to far ahead though. Let’s just focus on getting through this season and hopefully doing well in the NCAA Tournament next month. Look for Selden and the Jayhawks to be the favorites in this year’s Big 12 Tournament, and to be able to make a solid run once March Madness hits.
