Kansas Jayhawks: Brannen Greene Is Deadly From Three-Point Range [Video]
By Joel Wagler

Brannen Greene has become a weapon for the Kansas Jayhawks. While his team is sits atop the Big 12 Conference with a two-game lead, Greene is way out in front of everyone in three-point percentage in conference play.
Since the start of Big 12 play, Brannen Greene has connected on 15 of his 24 three-point attempts, good for an amazing 62.5%. The next highest player is shooting 48.7% in league play.

For the season, Greene is 29 for 57 from deep. If Greene had enough attempts to qualify, his 50.9% would be good enough for second in the nation. Greene has made Bill Self take notice, and he has been a good weapon since the start of the Big 12 portion of the schedule.
Greene’s playing time in November and December varied from game to game. He only played five minutes in the dumpster fire that was the Kentucky game, and he logged 22 minutes against Rhode Island.
Since the start of conference play, he has played at least 14 minutes in all but two games. He logged a season high 29 minutes against Baylor but only eight total in back-to-back games. On occasion, he seems to play himself into Bill Self’s doghouse, probably on defense, to make an educated guess.
Still, there is no one hotter than Brannen Greene right now. He hit all five of his three-point attempts earlier in the season at Georgetown, and that is a terrific one-game performance, but it does not compare to the lengthy hot streak the sophomore is on now.
Over his last five outings, including a game in which he did not make an attempt, Greene is 12 for 16 from behind the arc, for a blazing 75%. It is hard to keep a player on the bench, even when defense isn’t his strong suit, when you are 12 for your last 16 from deep.
Greene has also been terrific from the free throw line, hitting 18 of his 31 attempts, for 90.3%. Only from inside the arc is he looking like something other than a shot making robot. He is just 11 for 23 from two for 47.8%, hardly a disaster for a guard.
Greene, at 6’7″, 215 pounds, is pretty slender and wiry, but at times, he is a decent rebounder. He is only averaging 2.2 a game, but he has pulled down four or more four times since Big 12 play started.
His shot is a thing of beauty. He shoots the ball high and quick, and his height makes it a very difficult task to block his jumper. It is smooth, with a great release, and it seems as if when his shots hit, they hit nothing but net.
Jesse Newell of cjonline.com, found some shot charts for Greene. These charts show that his is quite good from all over the court, but he seems to favor the left side a bit. From Newell:
"Greene especially has worn out the left side of the arc in Big 12 play, making 4 of 5 from the left corner and 3 of 4 from the left wing."
If Greene can continue to improve on defense, keeps his mind focused on the little things on the court, and can contribute on the glass, he will be a valuable cog on this Kansas Jayhawks basketball team.
If he continues to knock down threes, his playing time should increase as the Kansas Jayhawks go down the stretch. He could play a very important role as the Jayhawks try to lock down another Big 12 title.
No one expects him to continue to drill 62.5% of his three-pointers, but with that shot, he looks as if he can continue to make over half of his deep balls in conference. He is too big of a weapon now. Bill Self will be looking for minutes for his biggest deep threat.
Enjoy these highlights from Greene’s five for five night against Georgetown.
