KC Chiefs: Signing Lance Moore Would Make Sense

With the recent news of Steelers wide receiver Lance Moore wanting to be released from Pittsburgh, it’s time for the KC Chiefs to make a move for him. Moore would fit in well for Kansas City, as the wide receivers currently aren’t very good and Alex Smith could use an experienced veteran out there on the field to throw to (Source of link: ESPN.com).

Moore has never exactly been starting material, but the Steelers definitely underused him. I’m also a big New Orleans Saints fan and had the pleasure of watching Moore play for the Saints for several years. Drew Brees appreciated what he had with Moore and the two connected for 4,281 receiving yards and 38 total touchdowns during Moore’s eight years in the black and gold. His best season came in 2008 when he had 928 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Right now the KC Chiefs have Dwayne Bowe, Donnie Avery, Albert Wilson, Jason Avant, Junior Hemingway, A.J. Jenkins, and De’Anthony Thomas as their wide receivers. Bowe has a huge contract that will need to be negotiated if he wants to stay in Kansas City, and aside from Wilson and Avant, the rest are definitely expendable.

With 11 total picks in this year’s draft, you can bet heavily on that the Chiefs will stack up on both wide receivers and offensive line. Still though, picking up a guy like Lance Moore would be affordable and practical. He only cost the Steelers three million dollars for two years, which is definitely something the KC Chiefs could match even with all of their cap issues.

Last year, Moore only found the end zone twice, but that’s still two more times than any of the Kansas City Chiefs receivers did. Pittsburgh (and Todd Haley) struggled to find ways to use Moore and that seems to be the main reason he wants to be released.

"“It didn’t go the way I’d hoped it would go, but that’s life in the NFL sometimes,” Moore said on Jan. 5 after the Steelers were eliminated in an AFC wild-card game. “It’s unfortunate that it unfolded the way that it did, but I enjoyed my time here this season.”– Lance Moore, Quote courtesy of ESPN.com"

You can’t blame the guy for wanting to be more involved, especially with his experience in the league and the leadership he brings. Lance Moore would be an excellent pick up for a Kansas City Chiefs team with ZERO wide receiver touchdowns in 2014 and I would love to see this signing happen.
