Kansas Jayhawks Game Notes Against Kansas State Wildcats
The Wildcats had a rough time of things in the non-conference portion of the schedule, losing six games, including a home loss to Texas Southern. Since league play began, however, the Wildcats have found their stride, and are performing much better.
The biggest hurdles Kansas State will need to overcome against Kansas, and any Big 12 team really, is their inability to rebound and score consistently. The Wildcats are 311th in the nation in rebounding (31.5 a game), and 228th in scoring (65.4).
The Wildcats do have three players who average in double figures, though. Here is a look at Kansas State’s key players.
- Marcus Foster – 13.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists
- Nino Williams – 11.7 points, 4.9 rebounds
- Thomas Gipson – 11.0 points, 4.7 rebounds
- Justin Edwards – 6.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals
- Jevon Thomas – 5.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.2 steals

There will be little doubt Bruce Weber will have his guys focused, and ready to withstand the Allen Fieldhouse crowd early on. Kansas State is looking for a signature win, one to help the NCAA Tournament committee overlook some of their bad losses, and a win on the road against the Jayhawks might just do it.
Kansas was lucky to come away with a win Wednesday at TCU. Kelly Oubre was limited to ten ineffective minutes because of illness (according to Gary Bedore of KUSports.com), and foul trouble plagued the Jayhawks’ top three big men most of the game.
Landen Lucus and Hunter Mickelson, neither of whom played against Texas, combined for 31 minutes. The two back-ups played very well, combining for 11 points, 8 rebounds, and four blocked shots. What a luxury for Bill Self to have two guys like this on the end of his bench.
As great as the Kansas Jayhawks looked against Texas, they looked that bad against TCU. The Jayhawks were outrebounded 50 to 40 by TCU. The team seemed to lack energy and hustle, except for a couple hustle plays late by Jamari Traylor.
Wayne Selden Jr, continues to under perform. He dished out four assists against the Horned Frogs, but only scored five bounds, and pulled down three rebounds in 29 minutes.
The Kansas State Wildcats have nothing to lose in this one. They should be able to play relaxed and come after the Jayhawks. Kansas must be ready for the Wildcats, and they need to keep the ball out of the hands of Marcus Foster, the one player that could really hurt the Jayhawks.
This should be another entertaining match-up up between the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas State Wildcats. A Kansas State win would make the standing at the top of the conference even tighter, and the Wildcats would be right in the thick of things.
