KC Chiefs news focuses on the possible return of Jaye Howard as well as what the Chiefs should do about their offensive line.

One of the key free agents for the KC Chiefs this year is defensive tackle, Jaye Howard. Howard is coming off his best season yet and would appear to be due a decent payday.

He recorded five and a half sacks and recorded 36 tackles during the 2015 season. Both of these are career highs. He also forced one fumble and recovered two others.

John Dorsey has done well at keeping the good players in Kansas City in his three years with Kansas City. Early reports are that Howard is staying in contact with the Chiefs. Kansas City Star beat writer, Terez Paylor, tweeted the following:

Jaye Howard would be a big piece for the Chiefs but they should be careful not to overspend. One good season does not a career make. The Chiefs may be overpaying for a contract issued based on that logic in Justin Houston.

Other KC Chiefs news has to do with the direction the Chiefs should go with the offensive line. The Chiefs got a very solid season at center out of Mitch Morse and Zach Fulton proved to be very dynamic.

Eric Fisher would do well to move to the right tackle position full time. He simply gets beat too often when lining up at left tackle.

Ben Grubbs was basically a non-factor this past season due to injury. It’s lucky for the Chiefs that they didn’t give up to much for the former Pro Bowl guard.

The Chiefs could look to free agency to fill the offensive line. Players like Russel Okung and Donald Penn are both available on the free agent market but are likely out of the Chiefs’ price range. The Chiefs have several fan favorites entering free agency and will likely look to spend their money on internal options first.

The Chiefs could also look to the draft as there are a number of good offensive linemen available this year.

Chiefs Can’t Overspend For Jaye Howard [Matt Verderame: Arrowhead Addict]

"Kansas City should offer Howard the four years at nothing more than $28 million with the same $15 million guaranteed. Maybe Dorsey gets cute and throws in some escalators and incentives that make the total value worth $30-32 million if Howard plays lights out. This way, the numbers are inflated and Howard’s representation looks good."

At the end of this week the 2015 football season will be officially over and all eyes will be focused on what 2016 holds. Professional sports is funny way. It doesn’t take much time, even for the champions, to look ahead to next year.

The Chiefs have plenty of questions to answer in spite of coming off a good season in 2015. They have several free agents on the defensive side of the ball.

With all of the question marks that remain relative to the 2016 season, the Chiefs still have plenty to be optimistic about. The offense seemed to get into a rhythm as the season went on and there are still plenty of defensive players set to return.

Several promising young players like Chris Conley, Marcus Peters, and Albert Wilson are all set to return as well. It will be fun to watch these young players develop as they can only get better from here.
