KC Chiefs News: Playoff Odds, AFC West News

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs are one week(!) out from the start of 2015 Chiefs Training Camp in St. Joseph, Missouri.

It hasn’t been all good news for the Chiefs as they inch towards the Training Camp grind, position battles, oppressive heat and endless repetition. Cornerback Sean Smith was hit with a three-game suspension Friday – he’ll miss the opening three weeks against the Texans, Packers and Broncos. That leaves the team somewhat thin at the cornerback position, with plenty of young talent but even more question marks.

While news has been typically slow at this point in late-July, there’s always roster speculation, positional battle previews and the final Free Agent signings left to be had, and this year is no different.

The Chiefs enter the start of camp with a core of veterans returning from its 9-7 season. On both sides of the ball, the Chiefs have quite a bit of continuity to build on from last season. There will be plenty of turnover as well, but it’s hopeful times for Chiefs fans right now, as it should be. We’re 0-0 and it’s Super Bowl or bust.

KC Chiefs: Chase Daniel Underrated As Backup Quarterback [KC Kingdom]

"I guess it’s tough to judge a player off two starts in five active seasons, but I would think that Chase Daniel would be considered at least a top ten backup in the league. He’s started two week 17 games since his time in Kansas City, and really should have a 2-0 record.A botched call on a field goal attempt against the Chargers in 2013 cost Daniel a win that he deserved. That game saw Daniel throwing for 200 yards, two touchdowns, and gaining an additional 50+ yards with his legs."

NFL Suspends Broncos DE Derek Wolfe For PED Violation [Fansided.com]

"While we all await the ruling on Deflategate, Roger Goodell continues to hand out suspensions around the league to everyone not named Tom Brady. The latest such ban was handed down to defensive end Derek Wolfe of the Denver Broncos, who will sit out the first four games of 2015 after violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs."

Here’s some other good Chiefs stuff from around the internet:

How Kansas City Chiefs Can Replace Sean Smith During Suspension [Arrowhead Pride]

"Smith will miss games against the Texans, Broncos and Packers. It’s those last two that make this a rough stretch to lose your team’s top cornerback. No team is prepared to lose a player like Smith but the Chiefs have invested in the cornerback position in the last two years."

Kansas City Chiefs 53-man Roster Projection [ESPN]

Is 2015 A Make-or-Break Year For Andy Reid With The Kansas City Chiefs [Bleacher Report]

"The last time the Kansas City Chiefs won a playoff game, Andy Reid was a tight ends coach for the Green Bay Packers. It was January 16, 1994. The Chiefs quarterback was Joe Montana, and their running back was Marcus Allen. Brett Favre was just 24 years old, and Reid was 35. He wouldn’t become an NFL head coach for six more seasons."
