KC Chiefs News: Quarterback And Wide Receiver Talk

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs news this week is focused on the quarterback position (like any team), but also the wide receiver corps. The wideouts are a group that fans will have great focus on this year after the ineptitude of last season, and the signing of Jeremy Maclin.

It’s a little bit of a slower time for the KC Chiefs right now, but news about Alex Smith is never stale.

The talented, but often maligned, quarterback signed a huge contract last season, and there is some talk of his restructuring it with the news of star linebacker Justin Houston holding out.

Another position that will receive plenty of attention this year is the one that involves the players Smith will be throwing to during the season.

Everyone knows former Philadelphia Eagle Jeremy Maclin will be the number one option, but who will be number two?

Also, for some good post-Father’s Day reading, check out the piece below from yesterday on Arrowhead Addict.

Oh, and if you just can’t get enough Chiefs, there’s also a story about the offensive line, because you know, you can never have too much Chiefs’ info.

Alex Smith Contract…Leave That Sucker Alone [Arrowhead Addict]

"With the ongoing discussion of Justin Houston and when will his contract be taken care of, people wonder why the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t re-worked the contract of quarterback Alex Smith. He has the highest cap number and contract, so it only would be natural that’s where the Chiefs could get some relief right? Wrong."

Chiefs Double Down On Offensive Line Plan [Arrowhead Addict]

"The Kansas City Chiefs’ annual mini-camp was conducted amidst a good deal of fluctuation.  Injuries, returning players and outside tragedy headlined a week that is critical in the development of this Chiefs’ roster.  As mini-camp came to a close, the muddied lineup along the offensive line did not gain any clarity.  Andy Reid and the Chiefs are sticking with the potential starters they have.  For now."

Chief’s Fandom: Happy Father’s Day [Arrowhead Addict]

"The road will not be easy for the 11 year veteran. Injuries to the Achilles can be career changing, and some athletes never fully recover from the tear, depending on the severity. However, Johnson seems to be defining the odds as he has seemingly made a full recovery and it ready to get back to football."

KC Chiefs: Five Worst Starting Quarterbacks In Team History [KC Kingdom]

"The KC Chiefs might be led by a decent quarterback right now in Alex Smith, but it wasn’t always like that for Chiefs Kingdom. While some might disagree that Smith is a decent quarterback, the Chiefs have had some pretty awful guys starting under center over the team’s 55 year history, and that in itself should make fans appreciate Smith more."

Who Will Be The Chiefs’ No. 2 and No. 3 Wide Receivers? [Arrowhead Pride]

"All right, it’s here. The moment we’ve all been dreading. The time of the year that makes us all wake up in a cold sweat as we agonize in our apprehension. The span of days that feels like waiting on the next novel of “A Song Of Ice And Fire” (well, for book readers. Haven’t read them, don’t intend to after sampling a few passages. Tolkien, Martin ain’t)."

Kansas City Chiefs, Former Ute Alex Smith Look To Ride Continuity  [Salt Lake Tribune]

"With minicamp over, the Chiefs are set to experience two major firsts when the team reports for training camp in late July."

"The upcoming season marks the first time in 12 years the Chiefs have the same coaching staff for a third straight year."
