KC Chiefs Ranked Ninth In Free Agency Power Rankings

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs have certainly had a great off season so far and Elliot Harrison of NFL.com agrees. He recently compiled his power rankings of all 32 teams after the first full week of free agency and put the Chiefs ninth overall. Not too shabby.

Here is what Harrison had to say about the Chiefs’ placement on the rankings,

"“The Chiefs are nipping at the Broncos’ heels in the AFC West after adding Jeremy Maclin and Ben Grubbs. Now, we’ve certainly heard all the wisecracks about whether Maclin will catch a touchdown, and how no wideout in Kansas City reached the end zone last year. Not to worry; we won’t exhaust that joke. No, I think Maclin’s 80-1,178-0 stat line will make him a truly valuable draft pick in fantasy. As far as the real draft goes, I have the Chiefs taking a safety or wideout at 18th overall. Maybe an ILB in the early rounds, as well.”"

Ahhh, yes. The Chiefs were ranked just one spot below AFC West rival Denver, and Harrison seems to believe there’s a good chance that Kansas City could take the division this year. We’d all certainly love to see that.

With additions on the most needed positions (wide receiver, offensive line, secondary) addressed during free agency, there’s really no reason why the KC Chiefs can’t contend for the division title this year. It’s also about time to feel confident in that the Kansas City Chiefs could potentially *gasp* win a playoff game!

As for the rest of the rankings, the Seattle Seahawks took the top spot, even though they were defeated in the Super Bowl by the New England Patriots (who were ranked second). With the Seahawks acquiring Jimmy Graham through a trade, their offense is pretty scary now. Before the receiving game in Seattle was just “meh”.

The Broncos were ranked eighth and Harrison joked that no one is really talking about the Broncos anymore since they’ve proven they can’t do much in the postseason (hey, we’ll take what we can get here in Kansas City). The San Diego Chargers barely made the top half of the teams, ranked 16th, and the Oakland Raiders were ranked dead last.

Overall, the AFC West should be pretty competitive in 2015 and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers could make it into the postseason like they did in 2013. Hopefully the Chiefs will actually win the division this year though. Fingers crossed.
