Kansas City Chiefs: Jeremy Maclin Plans To Join Chiefs

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs will be inking a big contract with wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, as reported by Chris Mortensen on Sunday evening. Mortensen tweeted the news on Sunday and it blew up everyone’s timelines.

This is absolutely amazing news for the Kansas City Chiefs, as their wide receivers were not great in 2014. We all know the stat: The Chiefs did not have a wide receiver touchdown in 2014 and we’re going to have to continue hearing about it until something changes.

Finally, the Chiefs will have a legitimate number one receiver for quarterback Alex Smith to throw to. Maclin had 85 targets for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2014 and that was after coming off an ACL surgery during the 2013 season (a season in which Maclin didn’t play a single game).

The concerning part of this whole thing is the cap space situation. It’s safe to say that Dwayne Bowe will be gone. There was talk earlier this week that Bowe would likely be cut if the Chiefs couldn’t find someone to trade him to. The only reason I was skeptical about trading Bowe before was due to the team not having any other wide receivers, but now with Jeremy Maclin coming to town, see ya later Dwayne Bowe.

With an addition like Jeremy Maclin, the Chiefs’ offense is instantly better and I think the 2015 Kansas City Chiefs will be a force to be reckoned with. Not just in the AFC West, but in the entire league. They have a tough schedule in 2015, but the offense will now look much better.

Factor in that the Chiefs will likely draft a wide receiver early on in the draft and it’s finally time for Chiefs fans to feel confident in this offense moving forward.

Jeremy Maclin played for Andy Reid for four seasons in Philadelphia and also played his college football with the Missouri Tigers. It’s really no wonder that he decided to join Chiefs Kingdom for the 2015 season.

To be honest, I didn’t really think Maclin would come to Kansas City due to the money issues the Chiefs have. They still have to deal with Justin Houston‘s contract and getting Rodney Hudson re signed. I’ll be curious to see how much Maclin is given.

We’ll keep you updated on all of the Jeremy Maclin news as it comes our way.
