KC Chiefs Rumors: Darrelle Revis Is On The Team’s Radar

facebooktwitterreddit

Darrelle Revis isn’t even a free agent (at least not yet anyway), but he’s already drawing interest from several teams. One of those teams is the KC Chiefs.

According to a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Kansas City Chiefs, along with the Browns, Bills, and Jets are interested in adding the big name cornerback to their roster for the 2015 season.

Obviously Revis probably isn’t thinking too much about this right now, as he’s gearing up for the Super Bowl this Sunday as a part of the New England Patriots.

"In March, the $20 million in 2015 compensation due and owing to Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis becomes fully guaranteed. If the Patriots can’t work out with Revis a new deal before then, they’ll have to decide whether to pay the money or to cut him."

Personally, I think going after Revis is a stupid idea. The Chiefs’ secondary may have had its struggles at times, but they never allowed a 300 yard passer, a 50 yard completion, or gave up 30 plus points in any game in 2014.

Another reason (and a pretty important one at that) is that Revis is going to be expensive. Yes, the Chiefs COULD make room to add Darrelle Revis, but it’s a matter of if it’s feasible right now.

In order to make room for Revis, the Chiefs would have to decide what they’re going to do about Dwayne Bowe, Chase Daniel, and Tamba Hali, who all have big contracts.

Would the KC Chiefs have to make more holes just to improve one area, when there are other positions in much dire need of an upgrade? Wide receiver and the offensive line certainly need to be addressed more than the secondary.

Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride said it best:

"With as much as the Chiefs have invested in their pass rush and how much they will invest there in the future — I’m operating under the assumption the Chiefs still want to give Justin Houston a huge contract — it’s hard to get on board with moving that many resources to a player in the secondary. The elite pass rush should make it so you don’t need an elite secondary."

I just don’t see how this is a good move for the Chiefs. I get that Revis is an elite cornerback, but the amount of money necessary to shell out to get him in a Chiefs uniform just doesn’t seem worth it.

Revis is going to be 30 in July and would likely want a big contract from Kansas City. I say focus on getting Justin Houston’s contract done and let the draft help out as far as cornerback goes.

It is hard to believe this is more than just a KC Chiefs rumor.

What do you think Chiefs Kingdom? Would you want to see Darrelle Revis in Kansas City in 2015?
