As the Kansas City Chiefs look to continue their dynasty, the team cannot afford not to make obvious improvements this offseason. Looking at the team's recent moves, one clear concern remains: reliable targets for Patrick Mahomes. The best player in the league has so often been asked to elevate marginal talent and is far removed from the days of having prime Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce to lean on.
While Xavier Worthy did show flashes of brilliance in the 2024 season, there is still reason for caution with the speedster. The future remains murky for star receiver Rashee Rice as well, who is facing legal concerns that could turn into a suspension. With this in mind, the Chiefs would be wise to bring in another potential target for Mahomes, with the best remaining option just happening to be Amari Cooper.
Adding Amari Cooper Would Be a Big Steal for the Chiefs
Kansas City will never turn down the chance to steal from Buffalo, and that is the opportunity they have been presented with. Amari Cooper had an underwhelming season, however, the receiver is only one year removed from being a 1,000-yard receiver with a completely dysfunctional Cleveland team. Add in what appeared to be clear injury concerns with the Bills and the Chiefs shouldn't hesitate to make the move.
The Chiefs need to bring in another reliable veteran target who helps save Travis Kelce for when the games matter most. You cannot continue to ask Patrick Mahomes to find magic each and every week to save an offense that is deserving of better weapons. Bringing in Cooper gives you two players you should be able to rely on, with Xavier Worthy as the second option at the position.
If Rashee Rice is able to return and is fully healthy all of a sudden, you have the ceiling of one of the best trios of receivers in the league. It is the type of move the franchise is long overdue to make for the best quarterback in the league. It is also completely possible that Amari Cooper would take a discount to be able to play with Mahomes and be a clear Super Bowl contender.
Whether it is Cooper or another surprise addition, there is no debating that a move is owed to Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The offense needs to be far deeper to give the team a better chance to lessen the stress of the regular season and be far better poised to deal with the 2025 playoff field.
