Teams around the league have used this offseason to make additions to the roster. Free agency opened up in March, followed by the 2025 NFL draft in April.
Teams used these two outlets to improve the roster. With the draft over with, teams have tapped back into the free agency well. The Denver Broncos have invited QB Desmond Ridder to the rookie minicamp, and he'll get a chance to throw and try out for the team.
Denver has Bo Nix as the starter with Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger behind him. The team clearly isn't sold on these guys, which is why they will bring in Ridder. At the same time, this is one less option for former Chiefs QB Carson Wentz.

Desmond Ridder Will Throw at Broncos Minicamp
Wentz is still on the open market after spending one season with Kansas City. He only started in the regular season finale, but regardless, he had a ton of starting experience under his belt (94 starts). Over his nine-year career, the 32-year-old completed 62.7% of his passes for 22,410 passing yards, 153 passing touchdowns, and 67 interceptions.
He has also gone 47-46-1 as a starter, but that isn't what teams are looking for at this point. Wentz would certainly be a better QB option than Ridder, who has been a disappointment since stepping into the league.
He was a 2022 third-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons, yet nothing has been smooth sailing. In 25 career games with the Falcons, Cardinals, and Raiders, Ridder has completed 63.6% of his throws for 4,002 passing yards, 16 passing scores, and 14 interceptions.
The fact that the Broncos are giving him a workout is pretty shocking. That is just one less team that Wentz could potentially land with, limiting his options.
He still can land somewhere, especially when training camp rolls around, but it looks like that location won't be in Denver.
