The Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills have established one of the biggest rivalries in the NFL in recent seasons. The Chiefs have established themselves as the premier dynasty in today’s game and have stepped on the backs of the Bills to do it, eliminating them from the playoffs in four of the past five seasons.

Buffalo’s futility against the Chiefs in January also has the Bills seeing red during the offseason, as they try to keep up with their biggest adversary.

Because of that, there are moments when Chiefs fans can’t help but laugh when Buffalo makes a mistake. It happened again when they missed out on a chance to upgrade their backup quarterback position on Thursday morning.

Packers Sign QB Taylor Elgersma from Right Under the Bills’ Feet

According to TSN’s Dave Naylor, the Green Bay Packers are signing University of Wilfrid Laurier quarterback Taylor Elgersma.

Elgersma was a second-round pick by the Winnipeg Bombers in the 2025 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft last week and was coming off a season where he won the Hec Crighton Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding Canadian football player in U Sports. His performance, where he threw for 4,252 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions and added seven rushing touchdowns, helped him earn an invitation to Packers’ rookie minicamp last week, and it went well enough to get a contract ahead of the team’s offseason team activities (OTA) period.

The move comes as a surprise to the Bills, who invited Elgersma to their rookie minicamp this weekend. With Elgersma declining that invitation to sign with Green Bay, it leaves the Bills scrambling for a backup quarterback behind Josh Allen.

Allen won the league’s MVP award last season, throwing for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns, and six interceptions and adding 12 rushing touchdowns last season. But there are big questions behind him with Mitchell Trubisky slated as the current backup. Shane Buechele and Mike White are the other quarterbacks on the roster ahead of minicamp and it would have been an upside play to add a young arm such as Elgersma to the mix.

With that, Chiefs fans have another reason to laugh and perhaps an opportunity will arise if Allen goes down this season.
