Training camp is finally underway for the Kansas City Chiefs. The 90-man roster is mostly set at this point in the offseason, but general manager Brett Veach should still look to give it the finishing touches with one final splash.
It's become painfully evident that they won't make a big-name signing at this point. And with Stefon Diggs no longer up for grabs and Tyreek Hill still hurt, those who wished for an upgrade for the wide receiver corps might not be happy.
However, that doesn't mean there aren't enough veterans out there who could give this team a much-needed boost on both sides of the field. While this doesn't mean the team will be interested in any of them, these three free agents would all fit a big need in Kansas City.
Brett Veach could cap this offseason off with one final roster addition
Bobby Okereke
With Leo Chenal no longer in the building, the third linebacker spot is up for grabs in Kansas City. Nick Bolton and Drue Tranquill will do most of the heavy lifting, but they might still need a guy to handle roughly 50 percent of the snaps.
Bobby Okereke is a vocal and well-respected locker room leader and a volume tackler. He's coming off a solid season but was a salary cap casualty for the new-look New York Giants. Still, he has plenty left in the tank, though his projected market value of $12.1 million might be a bit too steep.
Jack Conklin
The Chiefs cut ties with Jawaan Taylor, but didn't pursue a replacement. Josh Simmons should handle blindside protector duties, but there are still some doubts with Jaylon Moore on the other side of the line. So, adding a low-risk/high-reward pickup there makes sense.
When healthy, Jack Conklin was also a highly-above-average right tackle. Admittedly, he hasn't been healthy that often, but he would be a massive upgrade over every option on the Chiefs' current roster. They don't even need him to play all 17 games.
Marshon Lattimore
Marshon Lattimore's best years are clearly far behind him. He's no longer the shutdown corner he was in his prime, and the fact that he remains unsigned says everything there is to know about what he can bring to the table at this point in his career.
That said, the Chiefs are committed to two young cornerbacks in Mansoor Delane and Nohl Williams. As such, Lattimore's value would come from a mentorship side. He can mold both of them into the same All-Pro-caliber guy he was in his heyday while providing an occasional boost on the field as well.
