Thursday was an exciting day as Kansas City Chiefs backup quarterback Carson Wentz had his first opportunity to address the media. The veteran signal-caller joined the Chiefs on a one-year after spending the 2023 NFL season with the LA Rams.

Wentz, 31, discussed several topics with reporters, ranging from adapting to Andy Reid's system to the Chiefs' winning culture. The former Pro Bowl QB also revealed that one unexpected player's experience with the franchise was instrumental in convincing him to move to Kansas City.

Chiefs News: Foles Convinced Wentz to Join Kansas City

According to CBS Sports' Jeff Kerr, Wentz told reporters that former Chiefs QB Nick Foles' opinion of the franchise helped convince him to make the move. Patrick Mahomes' new backup said that he remembers how Foles talked about "all the good things he had to say about his time" in Kansas City and how the former "absolutely loved it."

Foles has earned the reputation of a journeyman gunslinger, playing games for five franchises since he was drafted 88th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012. He spent the 2016 campaign with the Chiefs and even led them to a 19-14 Week 8 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in his lone start. Kansas City then declined his second-year option after the season, resulting in his rejoining the Eagles via free agency.

The Wentz-Foles tandem then went on to lead the Eagles' QB room for the 2017 and 2018 seasons with the highlight being the Super Bowl LII victory.

Nevertheless, it's nice to see that Foles' time in Kansas City was great enough to give a glowing review to Wentz even though the Chiefs declined the second year of his deal. At the end of the day, the NFL is a business and Foles gets that.

Even if ownership is far from perfect, the Chiefs are one of the best franchises in the NFL. They're in the middle of a modern-day dynasty after winning three of the last five Super Bowls with a shot at being the first-ever team to pull off a three-peat. You can't blame Wentz for wanting to be a part of history, regardless of what Foles had to say all those years ago.

Fortunately, there's a solid chance that Kansas City will win a third straight Lombardi Trophy. After all, the Chiefs currently hold the second-best Super Bowl LIX odds (+650) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
