Travis Kelce Backtracks After Flirting With Idea of Leaving Chiefs
By Joe Summers
Travis Kelce has no intention of playing for any organization other than the Kansas City Chiefs, in case you were worried. His recent comments that he'd love to play for an NFL team in London sent Chiefs Kingdom into a tizzy, though Kelce quickly clarified matters.
There was never any real concern that Kelce would leave Kansas City, especially after the new contract he just signed to become the highest-paid tight end in football.
Just to be safe, Kelce hopped on social media and made his stance clear.
Travis Kelce Clarifies He's Never Leaving the Chiefs
In the latest episode of his award-winning podcast New Heights with his brother, Jason, Travis said he was waiting for the NFL to put a team abroad so he could join that organization.
He noted the "only situation" he would leave the Chiefs for would be if he played in another country, predicting the NFL would have a team overseas within the next 10 years.
Kelce will likely be long retired by the time that team is created, and he's determined to finish his career where it started. He'll go down as one of the greatest Chiefs of all time no matter what but playing every game for the organization will put him in rarified air in franchise history.
Despite a down year relative to his standards, Kelce proved he's one of the most dangerous weapons in the league in the playoffs, catching 32 passes for 355 yards and three TDs en route to a second consecutive Lombardi Trophy.
Playing in London sounds fun but Kelce knows there's nothing like suiting up for Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. He's not going anywhere, even if the seemingly green grass is tempting across the pond.
