The Day Rashee Rice Became an Authentic Star
By Joe Summers
Will you remember where you were the day Rashee Rice became a bonafide star?
The day we've been waiting for all season finally came and it was glorious. Rice had a career-high eight catches for 107 yards and a TD, finally emerging as the Chiefs' No. 1 receiver as Kansas City put up 31 points in a win over the Raiders.
With one 39-yard scamper into the end zone, the second-round rookie has arrived.
Rashee Rice Enjoys Breakout Game vs. Raiders
This was the first game of the season that Rice earned 10+ targets as Mahomes force-fed the former SMU standout the ball. What do you know, great things happened!
Now sitting at 527 receiving yards on the season, Rice has a legitimate chance to reach 1,000 if he remains heavily involved with offense.
He still needs to clean up the drops, so there's obviously ways he can improve. Rice dropped a critical third-down pass, but luckily made up for it with his electric touchdown.
This is the guy the Chiefs can build their offense around in tandem with Kelce. Patrick Mahomes has a 128.2 passer rating when throwing to Rice, the sixth-highest mark of any target in the NFL. With our other receivers struggling and Rice looking like a star, this needs to be the way forward.
The Chiefs may finally have an offensive identity. A star was born on Sunday, now I can't wait to watch him shine.
